LAYA KRISHNA
Director of Programs
Laya Krishna is the Director of Programs at Model UN Academy, the world’s largest youth-led educational Model UN nonprofit, which has provided free, original resources to over 16,000 students across 58 countries. These resources have been translated into 104 languages—totaling 1,300,000 words. As the Director of Programs, Laya aims to establish clear communication with users of the site, and works hands on to expand the involvement of ambassadors, chapters, and fellows at the Model UN Academy.
Upon participating in many Model UN conferences both at the regional, national, as well as international level, Laya recognized the need for peaceful negotiations and diplomacy when handling sensitive and important topics. Overtime, she realized this skill and the resources to carry out these diplomatic conversations aren’t always provided easily to students, one of the primary reasons she decided to become a member of Model UN Academy. Here, she hopes to empower the next set of change makers, and help set them up on a pedestal for success by ensuring every one of their voices are heard.
Model UN Experience
Laya is an assistant chair for NorthMUN, a premier conference in New Jersey, and she is on the secretariat board as the Under-Secretary General of Press. As a part of North MUN, a team consistently ranked within the top 10 nationally, Laya has participated in various regional as well as international conferences, attending a total of 4 conferences to date. She has qualified for two international conferences so far, and has been awarded highly at both of them.
